Sexual Assault victim presents to PD

Responding officer follows each police department protocol around responding to rape victims, taking report, etc. Once it is determined that the victim wants to have an exam done.

WC SAFE is paged @ 313-430-8000

WC SAFE staff will discuss with the Officer / Detective / Investigator
1) patient meets criteria:
• ages 0 and up
• assault occurred within last 120 hours
• patient wanting to have exam done
2) is patient in need of emergency department evaluation prior to coming to us

IF VICTIM MEETS CRITERIA AND DOES NOT REQUIRE ADDITIONAL MEDICAL ATTENTION ENSURE VICTIM UNDERSTANDS THE REASON FOR REFERRAL TO OUR PROGRAM FOR COMPASSIONATE, COMPREHENSIVE AND SPECIALIZED CARE. TRANSPORTATION WILL BE ARRANGED IF NOT AVAILABLE. VICTIM WILL BE SEEN AT THE SITE OF THEIR CHOICE. WC SAFE STAFF WILL MEET THEM THERE.

IF PATIENT IS DETERMINED TO NEED ADDITIONAL MEDICAL ATTENTION PRIOR TO SEEING US

WC SAFE staff will respond to hospital with necessary equipment to provide crisis intervention and medical-forensic services.
